The lead aircraft pilot is the only pilot looking forward. The three pilots of aircraft #2, #3, and #4 always look to the aircraft they are flying next to or flying under. They fly the tightest formation sometimes 18 inches apart. In this formation, the top aircraft pilot looks to the aircraft on his left and so forth.
